چکیده
On-line two-angle (15 and 90) light scattering measurements with a gel permeation chromatograph for linear and branched polystyrene in tetrahydrofuran (a good solvent) and in trans-decalin (a theta solvent) were made and compared with data from a multi-angle light scattering detector and literature values. Theoretically, weight-average molecular weight and the radius of gyration Rg can be determined accurately in the range where Rgk is less than 1.2 (rod) ~ 1.7 (random coil); here, k is the absolute value of the scattering vector for a right angle detector with the Berry square root method. Molecular weight dependence of the radius of gyration obtained from the two-angle light scattering detector for linear and branched polystyrenes under different thermodynamic conditions were measured and found to be almost the same as values measured with a multi-angle light scattering detector and literature values in the appropriate range of molecular weight.

Radius of Gyration of Polystyrene Combs and Centipedes in a Ο Solvent
The molecular weight dependence of the radii of gyration Rg in a Θ solvent (trans-decalin) of one regular branched comb and three regular centipede polystyrenes was studied using a gel permeation chromatography system equipped with a two-angle light scattering detector and a refractive index detector. Rg in trans-decalin for each sample of particular molecular weight was about 25% smaller than ...

Time-average and time-dependent intensity of light scattered by linear polyethylene (LPE), Dutch State Mines sample L30-4-6, in a good organic solvent, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene at 135 "C, was measured as a function of polymer concentration at scattering angles between 35 and 145O. Molecular properties determined were the z-average radius of gyration, = 50 nm, the z-average hydrodynamic radius, (R...
متن کاملLight-scattering study of DNA condensation: competition between collapse and aggregation.
Light-scattering studies were done to investigate the DNA collapse transition, a large and discontinuous reduction in the radius of gyration. Of particular concern was differentiating the compaction of a single DNA molecule from aggregation. Solutions of RK2 plasmid DNA (Mr = 37 X lo6) or bacteriophage T7 DNA (Mr = 25 X lo6) were titrated with the condensing reagents spermidine in aqueous solve...
متن کاملMonomeric Amyloid Beta Peptide in Hexafluoroisopropanol Detected by Small Angle Neutron Scattering
Small proteins like amyloid beta (Aβ) monomers are related to neurodegenerative disorders by aggregation to insoluble fibrils. Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) is a nondestructive method to observe the aggregation process in solution. We show that SANS is able to resolve monomers of small molecular weight like Aβ for aggregation studies. We examine Aβ monomers after prolonged storing in d-...
